This website is published by me, Joel Christiansen. I am a Portland, Oregon employment attorney. The purpose of this page is to tell you a bit about and my practice and myself. Of course, if you have any questions, you can always call me at 503-405-8274.
I represent individuals and small to medium-sized businesses in employment-related matters. Work is an important part of most people’s lives and I take pride in helping resolve employment-related issues. I am willing and able to push a case to trial when that becomes necessary. However, I believe that most cases can be settled if the parties are willing to be reasonable and honest.
If you or your company are looking for an employment attorney, there are a few things you should know before you contact me:
- I represent employees and small to medium-sized employers. There are some cases where employers need to be held accountable. However, there are other cases where employees threaten or take legal action that is not warranted. My goal is to represent clients with meritorious cases, whether those clients are employees or employers. I view my ability to see both sides of a case as an asset.
- I believe that everyone deserves the best possible lawyer for their particular case. While I try hard to be a great lawyer, I am not the right fit for everyone. If I feel there is a better lawyer or law firm out there for you, I will refer you to that lawyer. At the end of the day, my biggest concern is getting you to the right help.
- I only accept cases that I believe have merit.
- I value open and easy communication with my clients. I return my clients’ phone calls and respond to email messages. I do not sugar coat my assessment of risks and benefits of any particular course of action in a given case.
I am committed to practicing law in a highly professional and ethical manner. I value and adhere to the Oregon State Bar’s Statement of Professionalism. Among other things, this means:
- I strive to only pursue positions and litigation that have merit.
- I continuously explore all legitimate methods and opportunities to resolve disputes at every stage in my representation of my clients.
- I do not employ tactics that are intended to delay, harass, or drain the financial resources of any party.
- I communicate fully and openly with my clients, and I use written fee agreements with my clients.
- I always advise my clients of the costs and potential benefits or risks of any considered legal position or course of action.
My office is located in downtown Portland. I am easily accessible from all freeways and have free parking available for my clients. I also utilize technology to make attorney-client communication easier and more productive.
I am a member of the Oregon State Bar and am admitted to practice in all Oregon state and federal trial courts. I am a graduate cum laude of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and received my juris doctor degree from California Western School of Law. Prior to my current solo practice, I worked for several prominent law firms and legal service organizations, both as an attorney and as legal support staff. I spend my free time with my wonderful girlfriend, Amanda, and our exuberant dog, Solomon. We spend as much time as possible exploring the Oregon wilderness and enjoying Portland’s diverse food and music.
